Sean Carter is a partner with Carters and the head of the litigation practice group at Carters. Sean has broad experience in civil litigation and joined Carters in 2012 after having articled with and been an associate with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP (Toronto office) for three years. Sean practices general civil, commercial and charity related litigation, as well as criminal appeals. Sean has been recognized as a leading expert in corporate and commercial litigation by The Best Lawyers in Canada since 2021.

Sean has a broad range of civil and commercial litigation experience, including matters related pertaining to breaches of contract, defamation, real estate claims, shareholders’ disputes and directors’/officers’ liability matters, estate disputes, debt recovery and US/Canada cross border enforcement of judgements. He also has experienced litigating human rights and employment-related matters, such as, sexual abuse/harassment (both historical and current), and human rights claims. Sean has experience representing clients before all levels of court in Ontario, and various other specialized statutory administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

Sean also assists clients on matters focusing on alternative dispute resolution, liability reduction and provides risk management advice for a wide range of organizations, including non-profits and charities.
