Sean S. Carter    B.A., LL.B.

Sean Carter is a partner with Carters and the head of the Litigation Practice Group at Carters.  Sean has broad experience in civil litigation and joined Carters in 2012 after having articled with and been an associate with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP (Toronto office) in their litigation and dispute resolution department for three years.

Sean has experience in matters relating to complex commercial disputes, estate litigation, applications under the Charities Accounting Act, personal injury, professional discipline and regulatory tribunals, commercial real estate, human rights and charter applications, shareholder disputes, historical sexual assault claims, insurance disputes, injunctions and extraordinary remedies, fraud and white collar crime, international arbitrations, cross-border litigation, quasi-criminal and regulatory matters, proceedings against public authorities, developing proactive risk management strategies, and the enforcement of foreign judgments. Sean has published extensively, co-authoring several articles and papers on anti-terrorism law, including publications in The International Journal of Not-for-Profit Law, The Lawyers Weekly, Charity Law Bulletin and the Anti-Terrorism and Charity Law Alert, as well as presentations to the Law Society of Upper Canada and Ontario Bar Association CLE learning programs.

Sean has been involved in cases and appeared before all levels of courts and tribunals including the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Ontario Court of Appeals and the Federal Court of Canada.  Sean has also been involved in and appeared before various administrative and disciplinary tribunals and boards in Ontaario and several international arbitrations (including in Toronto, London, U.K. and New York)
